Schwetzingen, March 2018. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology chooses the open Inkjet platform n.jet lab from Notion Systems

The Institute for Applied Informatics (IAI) uses the Inkjet platform n.jet lab 3D for the development of new 3D printing processes. Besides the analysis of new materials to use for the digital 3D direct superstructure, new printing processes and methods for data processing are supposed to be developed and evaluated. The n.jet lab 3D platform is therefore becoming a part of the Karlsruhe Nano Micro Facility (KNMF), which is supported by the Helmholtz Association. For research purposes, the Helmholtz Association offers Universities and industry partners open access to their equipment.

The research of the Light Technology Institute of the KIT (LTI) is all about light: Organic semiconductor devices, nanophotonics, photovoltaics, optical sensor systems and printed electronics are the key aspects of their work. The new platform n.jet lab advanced is inserted as part of the Helmholtz Energy Materials Foundry (HEMF) to manufacture and investigate liquid processable elements for energy conversion (HEMF Printing-Lab). Printable elements are particularly interesting for Energy-Harvesting and sensor technology for autonomous Internet-of-Things applications. The focus here is on photovoltaic and thermo-electronic materials, which can directly be integrated into systems through printing processes.

ABOUT THE KARLSRUHE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (KIT)

As „the Research University in the Helmholtz Association“, the KIT creates and imparts knowledge for society and environment. The aim is to make significant contribution to global challenges of mankind in the fields of energy, mobility and information. Therefor, about 9,300 employees work together in a broad range of disciplines, i.e. in natural sciences, engineering sciences, economics, and the humanities and social sciences. Through research-based studies, the KIT prepares its 26,000 students for responsible positions in society, industry and science. The KIT‘s innovation efforts build a bridge between important scientific findings and their application for the benefit of society, economic prosperity, and the preservation of our natural basis of life.

ABOUT NOTION SYSTEMS GMBH

Notion System develops and provides modular inkjet platforms for industrial manufacturing
processes. The applications that have been implemented since the foundation of the company
in 2012 range from highly precise 3D printing of optical components and conformable
coating processes to highly precise dosage and industrial-scale applications of active sensor,
semiconductor and biological materials. Notion Systems relies on the decades of experience
of their staff, which they have gained in the development and manufacturing of precise inkjet
systems and in scaling up digital printing processes for functional materials.
