Notion Systems GmbH, a leading manufacturer of inkjet printing systems for functional materials, has just successfully completed the installation of an n.jet display for pixel printing at CSOT in China. The system is used to print a (R/G/B) pattern at 400 dpi resolution on different display sizes. The system was developed in collaboration with leading glove box manufacturer MBraun of Munich, Germany.

The overall benefits of inkjet printing in the display industry are:

• Elimination and replacement of various process steps
• Material savings, as printing is done digitally and without masks
• Possibility to produce displays with better quality (no mura effect)
• Easy scalability for larger substrates
• Replacement of expensive process steps (e.g., vacuum coating)

According to several presentations at Display Week 2022, inkjet printing technology for OLED/QLED displays will play an important role in future production. Notion is also prepared to print even higher resolutions with its newly developed n.jet EHD system.

Notion Systems entered into a cooperation with Scrona last year because EHD (Electrohydrodynamic) technology is a promising technology to reduce structure sizes to less than one micron and allows us to use inks with higher viscosity. It supports the printing of high-density colour filters and enables the production of colour micro-LED displays with structures < 1 µm. Notion will deliver the first three n.jet EHD systems to an unnamed customer in Europe in the third quarter of 2022.
